I never thought of trying to reach out. I have always been to intimidated to try and contact people that are famous or important to large companies. This week I reached out by sending an email to a popular band that played in Urbana recently and I am still awaiting their response.
I sent an email to The Hood Internet. They are a popular band that started out small by remixing songs and putting them on the internet for free. They eventually blew up with popularity and started playing shows. I saw them two weeks ago at the Canopy Club in Urbana and they were amazing. Since I had some similarities with this band it made it easy to send them an email. I sent an email complimenting them on the show that I saw and asking a few technical questions about the equipment they used. I thought it would increase my chances of a response if I asked something interesting. I still havent heard back from them but reaching out was a lot easier than I had expected.
Although I have not heard back from The Hood Internet it was still a noteworthy experience to reach out to someone. I think it was very easy for me because I had some similarities to talk about and bond over with my target. If I ever get a response ill be sure to fill you guys.
Everyone seems to be learning about the power of email. Before I read these latest blog posts I really hadn't thought too much about how easy it is to email someone, even if they are famous or very important. I'm really beginning to think I need to do something of the same, just to see if I can get a response. I really hope that you hear back from them.
ReplyDeleteDo you have experience with achieving a response by asking something interesting? If I were to try to contact somebody, I would use the same tactic, but I truly don't know how well it actually works.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered contacting The Hood Internet through other means than email? Maybe they prefer one over the other. Is there even another contact method?
What similiarites do you have with the band? This is just out of curiousity.
Where did this band come from? Are they a local band where you are from? Because I personally have never heard of The Hood internet.
ReplyDeleteAlso, how exactly do they play shows? If they just remix songs, do they just stand on stage and play music? Or do they play instruments?

Have you ever considered the artistic value of a band that only uses other bands songs as their own? Last year I had a debate in literature class about this, and it was very thought providing about what we consider art today.
You mentioned that you were intimidated to contact people in the past, why is this? You also said you have some similarities with the band and mentioned their equiptment, do you play and instrunment, and if so what do you play and what interests you about this band and what makes it unique?
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of similarities do you share with the band? I'm sure that you like their music, so I know that is one similarity, but did you have anything else in mind?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I remember Alysia mentioning in class that shorter is better when e-mailing those that get lots of e-mails. Did you keep that in mind when you wrote your e-mail? Maybe asking one interesting question would have increased your chances of getting a response.
Have you heard of the Hood before they played in Urbana? I know there are a lot of bands that play at Canopy Club that I have never heard of. If you took a liking that quickly to a new band, then I should probably try checking out some of the local bands that play their, too.
